Biography

Gordon McCormick is a philanthropist and social change agent based in New York and active in projects around the world. His work centers on creating permanent change in the quality of people’s lives through three core activities: empowering sustainable economic development; exploring and implementing non-violent alternatives through conflict resolution; and building the structures and processes of civil society. Referring to himself as a “junk yard dog,” Gordon relishes turning the biggest breakdowns into openings for positive change. His expertise includes raising money from individuals, educating people in a position to make a difference and creating opportunities that unlock further possibility.

Before beginning full-time activist work, Gordon had a successful 40-year career in finance, which included serving as a partner of Bear Stearns and running his own investment bank. In 2002, he decided to build on both childhood experience and a lifetime of progressive efforts and devote all of his energy to creating a peaceful world where the potential for economic, social and personal development flourishes unfettered. His current projects include: Fonkoze Capital, LLC, the largest micro-credit bank in Haiti (Managing Member); Sarvodaya, USA, an organization supporting peace and economic development in Sri Lanka (Chairman) and the Mastery Foundation, a group empowering those who minister and serve others (Fund Raiser and Investor) and the Social Venture Network, an organization promoting social responsibility, justice and sustainability in business (Member). He is also principal of Trim Tab Associates, a consultancy which acts as a social catalyst through coaching non-profit organizations to develop: clarity and audacity of purpose, financial viability and systems to insure that results match the purpose.
